Description

History

The Sludge is an old pagan god of knowledge and sacrifice with additional themes of self-improvement and evolution. The Sludge must consume knowledge to stay alive, and consume it does - literally stealing the memories from its followers and victims, but not the lessons that they have learned. While the Sludge gains more to ponder, those who sacrifice to it are left with a hunger for knowledge of their own. The more the Sludge knows, the more it evolves, its appearance and powers growing along with its complexity.

Before its isolation, it had a highly functional and friendly (though zealous) following, spanning both an order of faithful Names and a mortal cult. Alas, the only way for the Sludge to survive for long enough to be freed was to overfeed on its followers, leaving them in a pathetic and vulnerable state. In addition to this, its mortal servants also forgot it with enough time.

With recent events unfolding, the Sludge awakens, weak and starving, ready to once again establish itself as a patron of mankind.

Personality-wise, despite its primal nature, the Sludge is very communicative and open to others. It often offered aid or trade to other Hours and surely plans to do so again once it actually has something to offer. The Sludge is terrified of having enemies, and can be greedy at times.

Its abilities include consuming memories as well as giving its memories (previously-eaten or otherwise) to those worthy. On the field of battle, the Sludge is extremely difficult to damage, but likewise a very weak and especially slow combatant. Notably, the Sludge can also consume harmful memories to aid the subject, a boon which its followers greatly enjoyed.

Appearance

A large lake of shifting goo of an extremely dark green color. This is the Sludge's base form. With enough knowledge, it takes on solid forms of varying complexity and size. Its previous prime form was that of a massive turtle (it prefers the likeness of beings with long lifespans).

Principles

One step backwards and two steps forward. One most lose to achieve greater gains. One must sacrifice to prosper. The Sludge, while adamant to stay alive, does not crave its own growth, and lives to serve and teach all lesser beings. While it eats memories, it does not consume anything that the mind derived from them, thus its followers eventually become great, empty-minded sages - masters of logic and quick thought, and ridiculously fast learners. It teaches determination, persistence - the joy of learning and the power of knowledge - the difference between the smart and the wise.

Worship

Cult

The Path of Waves is the old cult that once worshiped The Sludge. Now, it's the time for its revival.
