Lock text: Where there are holes in the skin of the world, certain things nest within them. We'll have to pass through them to reach our goal. They can be undone by that which called them, or they can simply be ended where they are.
Start text: Were they ever summoned? Were they ever unsummoned? They are surely as real as you are, but yet they aren’t real at all. Perhaps you aren’t as real as you thought you were. Knock might correct them, or Winter might simply end them before they can continue being wrong.
Expeditions
- Probably a Colony
- Probably not a Colony
Requirements
- Knock (Invokes the Silver Owl)
- Winter (Invokes the Aged Bones)
Knock Invocation
We call upon the Silver Owl
- Knock 10: We call upon the Silver Owl, who shatters all bonds. These beings may or may not be real, but something has still bound them here. The Silver Owl will break the chains that bind them. We will surely pass.
- Knock 5: We call upon the Silver Owl, who protects freedom. We have a right to live, and to be free in that living. The Silver Owl will probably side with our cause.
- Knock 1: We call upon the Silver Owl, who cannot be commanded. These beings were controlled, once before. The Silver Owl can break the grip of those ancient commands. That might save us.
- Knock Success: The chains have broken! These things were never summoned, and yet they were bound. With the breaking of their chains, they depart, and we can move on.
- Knock Failure: A tightening noose. What has not been summoned cannot be unsummoned. They remain, and worse, they have noticed us. We must retreat.
Winter Invocation
We call upon the Aged Bones
- Winter 10: We call upon the Throne-Eternal, who cuts the thread. The Throne-Eternal weaves the tapestry of the Histories. These beings do not fit within her narrative. They will be ended here, and now.
- Winter 5: We call upon the Throne-Eternal, who has never forgotten. Are these alive, dead, here, gone? We will submit our answer for her consideration. She will probably correct them, rather than us.
- Winter 1: We call upon the Throne-Eternal, who is undying. The Throne-Eternal was mortal, once. She might side with us on that basis.
- Winter Success: A single snip. They are gone, now. A moment of silence, to mourn that which was not. Then we move on.
- Winter Failure: A retrieved thread. The summoning was not ended, but the unsummoning was. Now we are beset by monsters. We must retreat.
