The Thorned Courier

Revision as of 07:00, 20 August 2019 by Topdjc (talk | contribs) (The Fleet-of-Foot)

The Thorned Courier is a mischievous Hour. He ferries messages from Hour to Hour, but always makes sure that the messages are delivered as insults, or is intentionally misleading as to what the messages mean. This leads to disastrous miscommunications, and the Thorned Courier delights in using the resulting chaos to sneak behind the backs of other Hours, usually in order to steal whatever catches his eye at the time. The Thorned Courier knows the every hidden path, and every secret passage. He uses these paths to travel quickly, and escape those that he has angered. The Thorned Courier has a habit of getting into places that he shouldn't, and some say that sometimes, he takes short-cuts through the histories during his travels.

Description

History

The Thorned Courier was first a Name created by the Spirarch in order to carry messages between her and the Worm Unending. But upon being visited by the Harlequin, the Spirarch was inspired. She transformed the Thorned Courier into something more. Something with the knowledge and power to travel anywhere, and carry messages for anyone. But the Spirarch imbued the Thorned Courier with the tiniest seed of malice, allowing for the Courier's sense of humour and mischief.

Appearance

The Thorned Courier takes the form of a large red squirrel, approximately the size of a young cat.

Principles

The Thorned Courier wields Knock, that he may travel anywhere, past any obstacles. He cannot be denied entry. He also wields Moth, for his sense of mischief and the chaos he causes.

Worship

Cult

The Thorned Courier is seldom worshipped, for he is an intermediary, not a leader himself. But he is often invoked, and the Society of Swift Speech are masters of this. They have members in every city of every nation, strategically placed so that they work at or near locations where messages or people travel frequently. Such as post offices, harbours, and telephone operators. They consolidate power through methods akin to embezzling money, and are known in the paranormal community for being one of the most reliable courier organisations, provided that they're paid well enough. Despite being spread far across the world, they still manage to communicate swiftly, and therefore maintain a solid community amongst themselves.

Mark

  1. Temptation: Loneliness: My friends are few and far between, and we do not speak often. There has to be a better way.
  2. Dedication: A Snippet of Speech: I heard the wind whisper to the trees, and the ground hum to the sky. If I can work my way into the natural order, perhaps I can communicate better with the world.
  3. Ascension: Whispers in the Wind: I must step quickly, and leave few prints. I haven't eaten in days.
  4. Ascension: Whispers in the Wind: Even when I whisper, my voice carries across the room. It is difficult to keep secrets.
  5. Ascension: Whispers in the Wind: My clothes have many pockets, but I have made more, beneath my skin.
  6. Ascension: Whispers in the Wind: My body is a shade of what it once was, but no gate can bar my entry.
  7. Ending: I haven't worked my way into the natural order, but I have learnt some of their secrets. I will speak to the air and it will carry my message to whomever I choose. I will outrun the devil of age, and I will not grow old.

Summon a Messenger For Mortals and Long
Summoning the Fleet-of-Foot is similar to hailing a cab. Lantern to make him aware of us, and Moth to assure him that it is not expected to stay long.
Hermes is not one for flashy entrances. We blink, and there he stands. Waiting expectantly for a message or parcel, and to be told where to take them.

Hidden Nests

The Thorned Courier has hidden nests in many places that even most Hours cannot reach. Up among the higher reaches of the Spirarch's branches, secreted into a hidden corner of the Worm Foundations, behind an ancient ruin, and other places. The Thorned Courier hides his favourite stolen treasures in these places.
