The Cage

Revision as of 10:25, 8 October 2019 by PerishedFraud (talk | contribs) (History)

An ominous spider descends upon the shard of history that holds the records of the deicide, burying it in its silk and keeping the truth undiscovered. It is not just the keeper of the Wassail, it is the Wassail, but that won't stop it from being an upstanding Hour. Created by PerishedFraud.

Description

History

Spawned immediately after the Wassail took place, this Hour's entire existence is based upon keeping those horrid events hidden from the current denizens of the Mansus. Its first move was to make the shattered fragment of history its domain. After this, it acted as a regular Hour with its own goals and mentality. The Warden knows not of its origin or its creators.

The Cage is very fond of other insect Hours. It adores construction and architecture, and enjoys hearing stories more than anything else. The Hour is forbidden by design to reveal any secrets, but despite its existence hinging on the great truth of the Extirpation, it entertains creative ways to get past this restriction (without harming itself too much, that is).

As a personal goal, the Cage wishes to ascend past its current incarnation, to free itself from its bonds and to set things right. This is an incredibly difficult goal considering its restrictions and situation.

Appearance

A giant spider. What sets the Cage apart from other such creatures is the bizarre mix of insect features that make up its body. While the whole is easily the webweaver, each part belongs to some other insect. Spiders, for one, aren't supposed to have wings, or stag beetle pincers, or claws, or a sting.

Each of the Cage's eight legs holds within it a single truth, and the closer that truth is to coming out, the weaker the limb grows. Two of its limbs, corresponding to the Cycle and Stillwater, are considerably weaker than the rest, for obvious reasons. The Hour has openly admitted that it'd decease if the entire Wassail was revealed.

Abilities

  • Undying. it is irreversibly tied to the history-shard that is its domain, with injuries healing if the Hour is damaged, and a new incarnation swiftly spawning if the Hour is slain. The only exception to this is the damage inflicted upon the Cage by revealing its secrets.
  • Holder of secrets and maintainer of balance. Patron of mortal conspiracies, accidents and white lies.

Principles

  • It's a mystery.

Worship

Lacking a cult, the Cage still has plenty of worshipers and followers, mostly stemming from other occult societies and groups. It is fond of providing its aid to cover up accidents, redeem mistakes, and keep mortal truths hidden for the greater good. The Cage accepts any offering, but most of all, confessions.

The Mansus

The Network

The Cage's domain is the history-shard that holds the truth of the Wassail. Here lies a vast expanse of webbing, and indeed, there is nothing else here other than the magnificent silken palace of the Hour itself, which stretches far into the sky.

The Histories

The Cage's existence keeps both the divine and mortal world unaware of the higher truths of the Wassail.
