Description

History

The Toymaker was once an hour to represent one of the most basic aspects of all mortals and immortals alike- Innocence. Hope. Youth of the mind. The desire some hold to guide those who are less experienced, and the eternal appreciation of fairytales. He was born from the collective unconscious of the innocent who pulled warmth from the Glory, and out fell the Toymaker. Pre-collision, his role was to improve the morale of all Hours and the mortals under them-- He gifted them perfectly innocent toys made by his own hand, and only a few cults revered him. But after the Glory broke, something inside him did, too- He couldn't think or live without the Glory to guide him. He began distancing himself from what he once was, and stopped believing in his own hope. He was shattered, hopeless- And so he turned to the children he guided, and offered them occult tools disguised as toys, to recruit them into Longhood, and use them as researchers- Those looking for a way to repair the Mansus, and the Glory. To restore the world as it was. To make both Mansii separate, but coexistent. It is an impossible goal. And he knows. But unfortunately, he holds on.

Appearance

The Toymaker is a human-sized, masculine ball-jointed doll with eight arms. His face is typically very angular and anime-styled. The paint on his face rearranges itself to form his various expressions. Despite being perfectly 2D, his mouth, nose and eyes are completely functional. He has black hair and very light blue eyes.

His hairstyle and outfit seem to change depending on how the other person wants, on the surface. He dresses however he thinks the other person will receive him best-- A child who wants to be a sailor would see him in an old-fashioned sailor costume, complete with a cutesy cap. A rich kid might see him dressed as a classic, elegant butler, carrying a tray full of cookies and milk.

What's more abstract, though, is the material he appears to be made from-- The Toymaker sees himself as being made of cracked porcelain, for example. Innocent, beautiful, pale, flawless, yet shattered. With parts missing. He is the brightest of hopes, the purest of souls, and yet, he is broken. Broken, just like the Glory that created him. In the Toymaker, whoever gazes upon him will see themselves reflected. The symbolism is usually not so on the nose- Many will see him as different types of wood, which secretly symbolize something. A few will see him as being made of marble, or precious metals, for example, if they adore him deeply. That being said, non-traditional materials are rare, but existent. A few twisted individuals have seen him made from human flesh, or rotting wood carved in occult symbols. However your Hour sees him is up to you.

Principles

The Toymaker is a bringer of hope and innocence. A patron to all children, all those who are still kids inside, and all those who act with pure intentions.

Worship

The Toymaker is most worshipped by children-- In the wise words of Erised, "THERE'S A CHILDREN SECRET CULT". He is extensively revered by those who have been reached by his messages, his toys with occult powers embedded into them, lovingly, and understood the meanings behind them.

Cult

The Marble Urchin Society is a secretive and surprisingly organised cult to the Contraptioneer. They are known for having some unusual doctrines and beliefs. They venerate the first children to have met the Toymaker as saints, and keep their never-waking bodies on display for worship. They don't permit anyone older than twenty as a member - Not that it matters, as those who "age out" of the society are given everything they need to know to continue on their own.

Mark

  1. Temptation: Joy: I remember i was merrier, before. When i didn't understand the meaning of taxes and work...
  2. Dedication: Joy: The Toymaker has promised to make me young at heart once more. I await word...
  3. Ascension: Joy: I find myself often staring curiously at the marching of ants and ticking of clocks.
  4. Ascension: Joy: I've acquired a taste for arts and crafts, building little dinosaurs out of clay and blocks. I look in the mirror and see the same face every day, never tired, untouched by time.
  5. Ascension: Joy: I can no longer work, as my eyes are always wandering around the corners of the walls. My joints feel as if they were plastic.
  6. Ascension: Joy: I wander at night chasing the dragon-shaped clouds, petting the dogs and reaching to the moon. My ball-jointed legs can run with renewed vigor.
  7. Reborn In Paradise: I have joined the Toymaker in his Workshop. Sometimes, i get to work alongside him, assembling train sets and wooden snakes with occult properties. I experience everything around me for the first time, every day.

My mind will not grow old.

The Mansus

The Workshop Of Smiles

A well-lit, crescent-shaped play area full of toys. Spirits, mortals and long can be seen assembling new creations and planning events. Everything is in shades of yellow and light brown, and the walls are painted full of colours.

The Deep Workshop

A gate on the middle of the WoS, guarded by the Marionette, leads to the Toymaker's residence, in which he retreats when he does not want to be disturbed. Walls painted in shades of oak and marble accent the throne room in which he sits, to be touched by no one. It is said that, sometimes, there is something slithering in the shadows. None who ask about it come back. Its eerie ambient suggests it was more friendly, once.
